Ghost Funk Orchestra at Mohawk with the Jack Moves and Blue Tongue

New York’s Ghost Funk Orchestra (twice featured as the KUTX Song of the Day, by the way) was originally the solo project of producer and arranger Seth Applebaum. But the one-person operation morphed into a tremendous ten-piece live experience drawing from soul, psych and beyond. It’s a massive cross-pollination of funk-ified soul and jazz-pop, then reaching for maybe Brazilian psych, and a bit of lounge for an extra laid-back groove. Get copies of A Song For Paul or An Ode To Escapism, and you’ll be reaching for your favorite set of headphones handy to lose yourself in the sound.

Ghost Funk Orchestra’s current tour includes a stop in Austin for a show tonight, Monday April 4, at the Mohawk on Red River, on the indoor stage. Doors at 7 p.m., and Blue Tongue opens the show, followed by New Jersey-based duo The Jack Moves.
